The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Saturday prevented former Panj Pyaras, who it had dismissed on Friday, to hold a meeting at the Akal Takht.

The defiant Panj Pyaras planned to announce their line of action against the SGPC executive committee who refused to implement their religious decree and dismiss the three jathedars of the Akal Takht, Takht Damdama Sahib and Takht Keshgarh Sahib for pardoning Sirsa dera head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in a blasphemy case.

The former Panj Pyaras, comprising Satnam Singh Khanda, Major Singh, Satnam Singh, Mangal Singh and Tirlok Singh, also attempted to sneak into the Golden Temple around midnight.

The SGPC task force was alert and did not allow them into the shrine. The five were stopped near the langar (community kitchen) building.

Police have also been deployed in the periphery of the shrine.

Sources said the Panj Pyaras were expected to meet and announce their line of action later on Saturday.

After October, the Panj Pyaras had last week passed orders asking the SGPC executive to dismiss the three jathedars by January 2.
