Argentina superstar Lionel Messi and his mates will not be getting internationally-acclaimed Nike or Adidas ball for their friendly against Venezuela on Septemeber 2.
Instead they will showcase their skills with NIVIA ball from a Jalandhar based company.
FIFA-approved NIVIA Simbolo ball will be used for the match, Celebrity Management Group executive director Bhaswar Goswami said on Sunday.
"We wanted to promote our country though this event. We had got requests from many highly reputed international ball manufacturing companies but we unanimously agreed upon NIVIA," Goswami told reporters while unveiling the match ball.
"It's approved by FIFA and has the highest standards. It's used in many top tournaments in India. We are very happy with this association," he said.
NIVIA was the official ball at almost all the Santosh Trophy matches from 1970s and was used in SAF Games in Kolkata and major IFA tournaments.
"It's a lifetime opportunity for us to see Messis playing with made in India NIVIA ball. It will put our country in the world map," Sameer Mehta, deputy GM, NIVIA told PTI.
"So far, we have had our experiences at the national level from Federation Cup to the most recently in the National Games (in Jharkhand). This is undoubtedly the occasion, the biggest ever in our company's history."
He further said they would supply as many match balls required for the match.
"Normally 15 to 20 are required for the practice and as many numbers for the match. We have enough stock ready. Match commissioner will ask for the supply."
