A seasoned performer and a familiar figure in Kolkata’s sarod circles, Arnab Bhattacharya is set to perform at Epicentre, Gurgaon, next week.

A seasoned performer and a familiar figure in Kolkata’s sarod circles, Arnab Bhattacharya is set to
perform at Epicentre, Gurgaon, next week. In the performance, Bhattacharya, a disciple of Pandit Buddhadev Dasgupta and Pandit Debu Chowdhury, will play a few compositions which pay a tribute to the gharanas as well as explore other styles. Cutting his teeth with the nuances of the Senia Sahajahanpur gharana to begin with, over the years, he has come into his own.

Tamasha Na Hua, directed by Bhanu Bharti, is a tribute to Rabindranath Tagore on his 150th birth anniversary. It centres on how a theatre group, while rehearsing Tagore’s play Muktdhara, gets into a debate over freedom in the present-day political and cultural context.

The best of French cinema

It promises to be a visual treat for the city’s Francophiles. Watch the cream of contemporary French movies from a diversity of genres, beginning next week at the Alliance Francaise de Delhi. On show will be celebrated movies such as Janis et John featuring Christopher Lambert and Ne te retourne pas that toplines Italian actress Monica Bellucci. Also, Le Serpente, features Olga Kurylenko, who has acted in a James Bond film. The festival will open with Podium, directed by Yann Moix, which tells the story of an average banker with a dream to be a singer. Does he leave his old life behind and follow the path to his dreams?
