Upset with ‘donkey’ remark, Prajapati community writes to CM Akhilesh Yadav

Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav’s remark on actor Amitabh Bachchan promoting the “donkeys of Gujarat” has generated resentment in the Prajapati and the washermen communities of Aligarh.

Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav’s remark on actor Amitabh Bachchan promoting the “donkeys of Gujarat” has generated resentment in the Prajapati and the washermen communities of Aligarh.

President of ‘Prajapati Samaj Sangharsh Samiti’, Rajan Singh said, “We are in shock. Donkeys are as important for our livelihood as cows are for Yadavs. Today, we wrote a letter to CM that he should consider the sentiments of Prajapati community and take back his statement.”

Rupendra Singh, a washerman of Nagla Mali area said, “The Yadav community survives by selling milk. Similarly, we survive by transporting our earthen pots and clothes on donkeys.” Similarly, Megh Singh (Prajapati), 75, of Jaiganj locality said that he made his living by transporting bricks and soil on his donkey.

Chief minister Yadav recently took on PM Narendra Modi over a Gujarat tourism advertisement in which Amitabh Bachchan had promoted wild donkeys of the state. “I will ask the biggest superstar of this century (Bachchan) not to promote the donkeys of Gujarat,” said the CM while campaigning in Rae Bareli.
