The farmer--Ramprasad Lodhi, 48, hanged self by a tree on the field in Sultanganj in Raisen. Lodhi’s kin said that he owned nearly five acres land but the failure of soyabean crop had devastated him.

Besides, he was under debt and had no money to marry off his daughter. As a result, he was depressed.

Police said that the deceased’s kin told them that he was upset due to the crop failure, and his inability to recover even the money that was spent in sowing.

They said that he had taken loan from bank apart from money-lenders. Lodhi is survived by three sons and two daughters.

Town Inspector, Sultanganj police station, CB Singh said that a case has been registered and investigations are on to ascertain the circumstances that prompted him to end his life.
