A youth attempted to self-immolate before the motorcade of chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Milonigang area of Jabalpur on Wednesday allegedly to press for police action against some relatives of a BJP legislator in a parental property dispute case.
However, policemen managed to douse the fire on time and rushed the youth, identified as Pratik Sahu, to the MH hospital. He sustained 10% burn injuries, the police said. Pratik accused the police of not taking action in the matter despite making complaint to the higher authorities against certain relatives of BJP MLA.
He said that his family had been threatened by some people to vacate the house they were living in. He said the matter was pending in the high court. BJP MLA (Panagar) Sushil Kumar Tiwari, however, denied he was engaged in any property business. "As I'm not engaged in property business, I've nothing to do with the matter," he said.
Jabalpur superintendent of police Harinarayanchari Mishra said the police have little role in solving the family property dispute as the case is pending in the court.
He said the condition of the youth is out of danger. The chief minister was in Jabalpur to campaign for the party's mayoral candidate Swati Godbole and corporators. He addressed public meetings in various localities.
