6 years of Singham: Here are some interesting facts about the action-packed film

As director Rohit Shetty’s 2011 film, Singham, clocks six years since its release, here are some unknown facts about the film.

The 2011 film, Singham, is not just another action-packed movie by filmmaker Rohit Shetty. It was a notable project for actor Ajay Devgn, and his filmi image as a tough and righteous cop. The film also established actor Prakash Raj as the new villain to watch out for. Revealing what led him to make the film, Rohit Shetty had earlier said, “I simply get bored by dark cinema. Singham was not a dark film. Also, I hate sad endings. You won’t feel heavy when you come out of the theatre [after watching Singham]. I want the audience to love my films and watch them with a smile on their face.”

Here’s some interesting trivia about the film:

1) The climax of the film was shot outside The Basilica of Bom Jesus, a famous Church in Goa.

2) The film has a shot of a bare-chested Ajay emerging from the water. The scene was shot in Panchgani late at night when the temperature dropped below zero degrees. The film’s unit was dressed in sweaters and jackets, but Ajay gave the shot in freezing cold water.

3) The film is a remake of Tamil film, Singam (2010), starring actors Surya and Anushka Shetty. Prakash Raj is the villain in both the Hindi and Tamil versions.

4) Anushka Shetty was offered the role of the leading lady in the film by the makers, but she refused to take it up. She later said, “A lot of false things were written in Mumbai about why I couldn’t do Singham... It was because of miscommunication regarding numbers (price). So far, the offers have not been that inviting.” Actor Kajal Aggarwal eventually played the lead heroine.

5) Actor Ashok Saraf made a comeback to Hindi films after nine years. His last release before Singham was Kuch Tum Kaho Kuch Hum Kahein (2002).

6) The film was made on a budget of Rs 20 crore, but it went on to make Rs 140 crore, and was declared a mass entertaining blockbuster.
