Supreme Court may have put a ban on firecrackers in the national capital this year but most animal lovers have long hated this one part of Diwali celebrations. Bollywood star Alia Bhatt began a social media campaign titled “Pooch over patakha’ through which she intends to make Diwali safer for animals. The campaign has found resonance with her fans and animal lovers.

Sharing a video on Instagram, she wrote, “This Diwali, I choose #PoochOverPataka. Do you?” It shows cats and dogs being scared of sound created by crackers. In the video, she made an appeal to avoid firecrackers. “Pooch, or patakha? Diwali is almost here and it is a beautiful festival of lights, not noise. And maybe you are fine with it but animals can’t bear it. So, this Diwali I am choosing pooch over patakha and I want you guys to do the same. All you have to do is send us a selfie with your little pooch and show us that you are willing to let go of the unnecessary noise pollution by ditching the patakha,” she says in the video.
