Karan Johar’s latest production Kalank is performing dismally at the box office after a smashing opening that made it to the top on a list of highest Bollywood openers of 2019. One of the reasons behind the major dip in the film that stars Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan in lead roles, can be blamed on the fact that the complete movie has been leaked online by the infamous Tamil Rockers - a well-known name in the world of film piracy.

Media reports suggested that Kalank was leaked online, just a day after it hit theatres on Wednesday.

Despite the industry waking up to the threat of piracy, Tamil Rockers seem to have had no impact. The website often leaks south Indian films, including blockbusters like Rajinikanth’s 2.0 after which the makers had moved the court. They have also leaked international movies like Hellboy and Pet Sematary and even the first episode of TV series Game of Thrones Season 8.

Directed by Abhishek Varman of 2 States fame, Kalank also star Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapur and Kunal Khemmu. Produced by Karan Johar, the movie was originally conceptualized by his dad Yash and Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol were supposed to feature in it.

Kalank is Alia and Varun’s fourth film together after blockbusters like Student of the Year, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Badrinath Ki Dulhania. It also brought together the 90s hit Jodi of Sanjay and Madhuri after two decades.
