The Indian Premiere League didn’t let films Arjun and Love, Wrinkle-free have a big opening weekend. Trade guru Taran Adarsh says, “Arjun picked up after a really slow start. It collected Rs 1.10 crore in its opening weekend.” Vajir Singh, editor, Box Office India says, “Considering Arjun is an Indian animation film, it’s doing pretty all right. The weekend collection of the film is Rs 90 lakh. Last week another Indian animation film, Chota Bheem, collected Rs 2.07 crore in seven days. Given the summer holidays, Arjun can still grow.”

The animated action film based on the Mahabharata is directed by Arnab Chaudhry and has been made at a production cost of Rs 8 crore under the Walt Disney Pictures banner. Producer Siddharth Roy Kapoor of UTV Motion Pictures says, “Arjun has scored on reviews. It’s a pathbreaking film in terms of the quality of animation. We weren’t expecting a huge opening because animation as a genre in India takes a long time to pick up in terms of numbers.”

Ask him if the film will face competition from UTV’s forthcoming production, Rowdy Rathore and he says, “We’re in talks with theatres to keep a minimum number of shows for Arjun.”

Arjun’s Indian and international rights will be sold separately. Kapoor adds, “We will sell Arjun through Buena Vista International Network for international rights and the film will be dubbed in other languages too. Also, Walt Disney will make it easier to distribute the film globally.”

About the English-language indie film Love, Wrinkle-free, Taran Adarsh says, “It’s a small film, which had a limited release, but the feedback is extremely positive and I hope it finds a large audience.”
