As Akshay Kumar turns 50, five photos that show how far he has come
On Akshay Kumar’s 50th birthday, we look back at the actor’s initial days in Bollywood. How the Khiladi Kumar turned into everyone’s favourite aam aadmi is sure praiseworthy.Updated: Sep 09, 2017 09:32 IST
Bollywood star Akshay Kumar turns 50 on Saturday and it sure is time to celebrate his golden jubilee. He just received a National Award (for Rustom), he has been giving serious competition to the Khans of Bollywood and has even made a successful career out of production!
Currently riding on the success of Jolly LLB 2 and Toilet Ek Prem Katha, Akshay has come a long way since his debut with Saugandh (1991). After working in run-of-the-mill masala movies like the Khiladi series of films for almost two decades, Akshay transformed himself. And what a metamorphosis it has been. Riding on content-driven cinema, the actor has delivered back-to-back hits since 2016.
However, the films that really changed the course of Akshay’s career were Sangharsh (1999) and Dhadkan (2000). The Hindi film industry also saw a major shift in terms of filmmaking and the heroes onscreen. The protagonist was no longer a street-smart, long-haired man who was fighting for his revenge.
Over the last few years, Akshay has been maintaining the perfect balance between business and craft -- as he churns three to four films per year, he makes sure most of these set the box office on fire while at least one addresses certain social issues.
But it was not always like that. Akshay famously said that there was a time he gave 16 consecutive flops. So, how did he survive? “You have to be a producer’s actor and keep good terms with them. The industry people are Dilwale but you must never ever forget professionalism,” he has said. It’s the star’s professionalism that helped him survive and thrive.
On his 50th birthday, we decided to look back at Akshay’s initial journey in Bollywood. We are sure you will see just how far Akshay has come in his career.
Once again, Happy Birthday Akshay!
