From talking about the strengthening of women living in the “deep ends of society” to expressing her views on gender equality — Sonakshi Sinha has always been vocal about matters concerning women’s empowerment. Since the last few days, the Bollywood actor has been advocating the need for Indian schools and colleges to include self-defence training in their curriculum.

The actor interacted with a few students from a reputed city college recently. She spoke to them about the importance of the subject. “It’s always great to meet students who are enterprising, and see how gung ho they are about change,” says Sonakshi, adding, “In today’s day and age, it’s important for every girl to be able to protect herself.”

Sharing her views on introducing self-defence as part of every educational institution’s curriculum, Sonakshi says, “If schools and colleges start offering it as a subject, I’m sure students would be interested in it. Apart from being beneficial, it would also be a good break for students from their lectures.”
