Indie film Kshay to release June 15

After wowing the international audience, debutant director Karan Gour's Indie film Kshay, a black-and-white drama, is set for a theatrical release June 15. The film revolves around a lower middle-class housewife's obsession with the statue of Goddess Lakshmi.

The film revolves around a lower middle-class housewife's obsession with the statue of Goddess Lakshmi. And how this obsession infects everything around her - her home, her dreams and her husband. It features Rasika Dugal and Alekh Sangal in lead roles.

The film will be screened here under PVR Director's Rare initiative.

"Our film is in black-and-white and without any stars or songs and it's really brave of them (PVR) to support a film purely based on content. We are excited to see how Indian audiences will react to our film," Gour said in a statement

"If we slightly alter the paradigm set by commercial cinema and show our audiences a totally different kind of cinema, our goals are achieved," he added.

The film has been shot by two-man crew including Gour and Abhinay Khoparzi, who is the director of photography.

Produced by Shaan Vyas, the film was screened at the Chicago Film Festival (CFF) and the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA), where it even won the Grand Jury Prize for best feature.

Kshay has now been selected for screening at the 11th Transylvania International Film Festival in Romania. The festival will take place from June 1-10 in Cluj-Napoca, and between June 13-17 in Sibiu.

PVR Director's Rare has been launched as an alternative programming initiative of PVR Cinemas to support the theatrical release of critically acclaimed, small independent films.

"I feel extremely delighted with release of the movie Kshay under PVR Director's Rare Banner. The previous movies, Good Night Good Morning, Chaurahen, and The Forest, have received an overwhelming response from the audiences and industry insiders alike," Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, JMD, PVR Ltd said in a statement.

"We hope to bring more such movies to our discerning audience and are positive that our efforts of delivering meaningful cinema to people will be successful," he added.
