He has proved his mettle as an actor on several occasions. But it is after winning the

Best Actor trophy

(for his performance in The Lunchbox; 2013) at the Asian Film Awards, that Irrfan Khan truly feels "a sense of achievement".

talks about the win, working on Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic World, romancing Deepika Padukone in a new film and sharing screen space with Kangana Ranaut in a love story.

We hear you are going to romance Deepika in Shoojit Sircar’s next?

Let’s see how it goes. She’s a wonderful girl. I’m sure I’ll have a great time working with her.

The casting is quite unusual, don’t you think?

Deepika wants to broaden her horizons, so she’s trying different kinds of work. It’s brave on her part to accept such roles at this stage. It’s going to be a new experience for her. The audience also needs that freshness from an actor. She’s a very intelligent and brave actor.

When does the shoot for Jurassic World start?

I am leaving for the US in two days. It’s a fantastic set-up and a superb script. I play the role of a park owner. I have watched a lot of Colin Trevorrow’s (director) work, and he’s watched mine and liked it. I’m expecting something very special from it.

You’ve won a big honour at the Asian Film Awards.

I am thrilled, especially since some of my favourite actors — Song Kang-ho (for The Attorney; 2013), and Tony Leung for Wong Kar-Wai’s The Grandmaster (2013) — were in the running (for the same award) too. There’s a sense of achievement because if the award wasn’t genuine, they could have easily given it away to anyone else.

Is it true that Kabir Khan (director) has approached you for a love story with Kangana?

Yes, and I am very impressed with the story. He sent me 30 pages of the story treatment and I loved it. But

usme time lagega

(that will take some time). I have a number of films to wrap up before we come to that one. I have told Kangana about this too.

Have you noticed Kangana’s growth as an actor?

She has grown and how! She has created a different and rare space for herself (in the film industry). At a time when people are focusing on looks and glamour, she is turning out to be an inspiration for others. It’s a great sign for the film industry — that it has space for different kinds of cinema and actors.
