It’s time the industry wakes up to me: Prachi Desai

Former TV actor Prachi Desai will make a special appearance in the Priyanka Chopra-Shahid Kapoor starrer Teri Meri Kahaani (TMK), followed by a full-fledged role in Rohit Shetty’s Bol Bachchan (BB).
“In TMK, I play a quirky, confident girl. It’s a small role and I’m doing it for Kunal (Kohli),” says Prachi.
She is also ecstatic about Bol Bachchan. “It’s my first attempt at comedy and Abhishek (Bachchan) is a great co-star,” she says. “He’s very energetic and he’s playing a character who everyone’s going to love. I’ve worked with Ajay briefly in Once Upon A Time In Mumbai and it was fun working with him this time too.”
Bol Bachchan combines comedy and action, and Prachi plays a well-educated, strong-headed, fun girl. “Shooting for it was a lot of fun, with tons of pranks involved thanks to Ajay, Abhishek and Rohit,” laughs the actor.
Since her film debut in Rock On (2008), Prachi, who recently launched Citizen L Eco-Drive watches, believes she’s had to make an effort to change people’s minds about her.
“Coming from television was quite a drawback,” she says. “People had fixed an image of me in their heads that took a lot of time to change. And I don’t like being typecast.”
She also thinks it’s time she’s seen in more films. “I know I have a certain mass appeal and it’s high time the industry wakes up to me,” she asserts. “So far I’ve been fortunate enough to work with good actors and directors, but I know I can’t make random choices. I cannot afford to make any mistakes.”
After Bol Bachchan, Prachi will do a film with John Abraham, which she claims will surprise people. “It’s essentially a rom-com, and I play a free-spirited, happy-go-lucky girl,” she says.
