John Abraham, Anil Kapoor and the cast of their film, Shootout At Wadala (SAW), made the most of their recent promotional visit to Dubai. Even though their trip was packed with activities, the actors spent a few hours at The Rashid Centre, an institute for special children in Dubai.
As a matter of fact, John and Anil even entertained the children, as they danced to some songs from their film. “The kids were so thrilled to see them; some even joined the stars while they were performing,” says a source close to the team. “John and Anil also played table tennis with them and spoke to them about their hobbies and interests at length. The children, meanwhile, kept the stars engaged with their drawings, paintings and handicrafts that they learn to create at the centre.”
The actors, who were so impressed and touched with the work created by the young artists, even purchased some of their creations and brought them back to India. “They felt that they would also be able to raise some funds for the institute this way. So among themselves, they held an auction for the children’s work. In the end, they all made purchases worth 1,50,000 United Arab Emirates Dirham,” adds the source.
Tanuj Garg, chief executive officer, Balaji Motion Pictures (co-producers of SAW) confirms the news, saying, “The team received a warm welcome at The Rashid Centre that works for children with special needs. It was such a humbling experience. We raised money for them through an auction. I’m glad that we could take time out for this.”
