Karan Johar gives away Faltu title to producer

After going through the script, Vashu and Remo had agreed that Faltu was the apt title but it was registered with Dharma Productions. However, Karan gave away the title very easily.

Karan Johar seems to have hit upon a new mantra in real, and not reel life, ‘It’s all about loving your fraternity.’ Or how else can you explain him giving away the title, Faltu to producer Vashu Bhagnani for his film as a "goodwill gesture."

"Karan was cordial when I called him for the title. We really wanted Faltu as a title because it fits perfectly," says Vashu, who has produced choreographer Remo D’Souza-directed Faltu.

After going through the script, Vashu and Remo had agreed that Faltu was the apt title. But when the producer checked for the title, he found out that the title was already registered with Dharma Productions.

According to Vashu, he was "initially a bit hesitant" to call Karan. "But I was surprised that he immediately agreed without asking any questions with just one call," he says. And the next day, Karan finished the paper work and handed over the title.

So didn’t Vashu have to pay any money to Karan for the title? "There’s no question of any money because it was a goodwill gesture on Karan’s part. And he is a kind of person who cares for relationships and not money," says he. For the uninitiated, Faltu stands for Fakirchand and Lakirchand Trust University. "When you watch the film, you will realise how important this title is for our film. I sincerely thank Karan for parting with the title readily," adds Vashu.

In another gesture of generosity in the recent past, Shatrughan Sinha had given away the title, Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Ji to filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar. Sinha had registered the title for one of his home-productions. "But when I put forward a request, Shatruji very graciously allowed me to use the title," said Madhur.

Such cases come as rare exceptions when compared to some fierce title-battles. A few days ago, reports suggested tennis star Leander Paes’s debut film Rajdhani Express was in trouble due to the film’s title claims. Moser Baer and Ashok Kohli (producer of Leander’s debut film) contested exclusive rights to the title. Similarly, Karan’s Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna too had hit hurdles when Biswaroop Roy Chowdhury had claimed that he had registered the title of the movie before Karan picked it up.
