Mahira Khan to join Kangana Ranaut, Deepika Padukone, Sonam on Cannes red carpet
If not the Cannes Film Festival itself, the red carpet will have a sizable representation of Indians making just the right style statement. And joining the Bollywood divas -- Deepika Padukone, Sonam Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and, the latest entrant, Kangana Ranaut -- at the Cannes red carpet this year will be Pakistani actor Mahira Khan.
Mahira, who made her Bollywood debut with Raees opposite Shah Rukh Khan, will be representing a make-up brand at the 71st Cannes Film Festival later this month. The actor, who was named the first Pakistani brand ambassador for make-up giant L’Oreal last year, took to Instagram to share the news.
Mahira shared a photograph of Hollywood star Arnold Schwarzenegger at the 1977 Cannes and captioned it: “Cannes 2018, Let’s do this!” She also took to Twitter and wrote: “My name is Cannes and I’m not a...”
While Deepika Padukone has already reached the French Riviera, Sonam is expected to leave for Cannes soon after her wedding on May 8. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who has been a regular at the festival for more than a decade now, will also walk the red carpet. She also shared a few throwback moments from her 2017 appearance at Cannes.
Deepika revealed she has reached Cannes through an Instagram post: “summer indulgence...#summerescape #Cannes2018 @lorealmakeup @lorealhair @lorealindia.”
Talking about her Cannes debut, Kangana had earlier told IANS, “It is overwhelming to witness the recognition and appreciation for Indian cinema at international platforms like Cannes. Grey Goose has created a unique platform of celebration to toast the game changing films at Cannes this year and I’m thrilled to partner with this global icon of luxury in the country of its origin.”
Indian films travelling to the Cannes Film Festival this year include Nawazuddin Siddiqui-starrer Manto, Nakkash featuring Inaamulhaq, and Tillotama Shome-starrer Sir. Divya Dutta, who is part of Manto, will also make her Cannes debut this year.
Other celebrities attending the Cannes this year to represent L’Oreal Paris are Julianne Moore, Jane Fonda, Eva Longoria as well as Bollywood stars Deepika Padukone, Aishwarya Rai and Sonam Kapoor.
The 71st annual Cannes Film Festival is scheduled to be held from May 8 to May 19.
