People feel that I have a baby face: Varun Dhawan
Varun Dhawan says he loves to do “young films”, but now, he also wants to be “a little versatile”.
He is 29, but Varun Dhawan says “a lot of people” he meets, call him “bachcha or baby” (smiles). But the actor feels this works in his favour, since he likes doing “young films”. “I was born in 1987. I have seen Anil Kapoor, Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar do films [in the ’90s], in which they used to play college students. I remember how they would carry only one textbook to college and no bags (laughs). As a kid, I used to enjoy those films. So, I keep doing a lot of youth-centric movies. However, Varun feels that now “people want a little versatility” from him. “They want to see me in different types of characters, and somewhere, I, too, want to do different characters. But my face doesn’t suit them, so maybe I will have to use prosthetics,” says Varun, laughing.
The actor is also “excited” about his upcoming film with Alia Bhatt because he has a ‘different’ look in it. “It is a young character, but it’s slightly on the mature side,” he says.

In fact, Varun feels his wish to be versatile is what made him take up his next, directed by his brother, Rohit Dhawan, in the first place. This will be the first time the actor will try his hand at high-octane action. “For this film, I had to even hang from a helicopter. I came on board for this film like a true David Dhawan actor [who is ready to do anything]. I told them, ‘Make me do whatever you want to.’ I said this not because my brother is directing it, but because the film and the genre demanded it,” he says.
