In desi households, the approval of the mother-in-law is very important and Nick Jonas already has it. Priyanka Chopra’s mother, Madhu Chopra, is fascinated by her soon-to-be son-in-law and is happy to give away her daughter to him.

Nick and Priyanka made their engagement official with a traditional Hindu ‘roka’ ceremony on Saturday at her Mumbai home. In an interview to DNA, Madhu said that Nick enthusiastically participated in the rituals, chanting the mantras perfectly. “Nick enjoyed the prayers during the puja... It was a new thing for him and he took it seriously. He followed what our panditji said, and chanted the Sanskrit mantras accurately. Both he and his parents did it beautifully. They are nice people,” she said.

She also talked about how she had given up pestering Priyanka about getting married since the last couple of years but she managed to surprise them with Nick. She now agrees that everything happens when destiny wishes it.

Now that the roka and the engagement is done, Madhu wants a traditional Indian wedding for her daughter. “My daughter knew I wanted a roka before the marriage, so she never said ‘no’. I haven’t forced any of my thoughts on her, but I Rdefinitely want a traditional Indian wedding. That’s my only wish. I started the roka with a puja, which is important for me. I’m a modern mother but at heart, I’m quite conservative,” she said.

She is also confident of Nick because she trust Priyanka’s choice. “Nick is calm and mature. He’s a wonderful person and everyone in the family just loves him. He’s so polite and respectful towards elders. What more can a mother want,” she said.

Madhu also revealed that a wedding date has not been decided and the two are busy with their work commitments.

Nick and Priyanka met at the 2017 Met Gala where they both represented Ralph Lauren. Rumours of their relationship began in May 2018 as the two were often spotted on dinner dates and outing around New York. She invited him to Mumbai and her house a few months ago and he accompanied Priyanka and her cousins to a small beach vacation in Goa.He reportedly popped the big question on her 36th birthday in July in England.
