Rishi Kapoor is now cancer-free, filmmaker Rahul Rawail was the first to confirm the news.

It has been seven months since veteran actor Rishi Kapoor left his fans shocked after he shared on social media that he would be leaving for America for “some medical treatment” and there have been various stories about his undisclosed ailment. And now, putting all speculation to rest, filmmaker Rahul Rawail, yesterday shared a happy news.

Posting a picture of Rishi and himself, Rahul wrote: “RISHI KAPOOR (CHINTU) is CANCER FREE!!!!” It is not clear if the picture is a recent one. When contacted, Rahul told us, “Yes, Rishi is absolutely cancer free, now. I haven’t met him but spoke to him over the phone. He called me in the morning [Tuesday] and gave me the [good] news that he has totally recovered from cancer. There’s just a small follow up and procedure that he needs to get done to ensure that there is no recurrence anytime. So, that’s all that is left now.”

When asked if the actor would be coming back to India anytime soon, Rawail added, “I have no idea on that, yet. But he definitely wants to come back as soon as he can. Also, it has been a very personal conversation with him, so that’s all I can share.”

We also got in touch with Rishi’s elder brother, Randhir Kapoor, and he, too, confirmed the news and said, “Yes, he is much better, and he will come back soon. [On whether he is completely cured], he’s on his way to full recovery and it takes time, he’s got to finish the whole course, but he’s fine.”

Rishi’s daughter, Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, is also relieved that her father is on his way to recovery. Though she said she would not like to comment on her dad, she told us, “Yes, he is recovering. With everybody’s prayers and wishes he is doing well.”

While there has been no official statement from the family, the actor’s wife, Neetu Kapoor, did give a hint about Rishi’s ailment, when she posted a picture from the family’s New Year’s celebration and wrote, “Happy 2019. No resolutions only wishes this year !!! Less pollution traffic!! Hope in future cancer is only a zodiac sign!!! No hatred less poverty loads of love togetherness happiness n most imp. Good health.”

Even though Rishi has been away for all this while, he made sure that he stayed connected with his fans and fraternity through Twitter. Not just this, several Bollywood celebrities including Alia Bhatt, Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan, Anupam Kher, Javed Akhtar, Aamir Khan, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Sonali Bendre , Maniesh Paul, also visited the senior actor in New York, and shared pictures on social media.
