Saif Ali Khan’s remake of Jon Favreau’s 2014 comedy, Chef, opened to a meagre Rs 1.05 crore on Friday.
According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film registered a ‘shockingly low’ opening, and would need to show substantial growth over the weekend to survive.
#Chef has a shockingly low start... Fri ₹ 1.05 cr. India biz... Need to witness massive growth on Sat and Sun to sustain.— taran adarsh (@taran_adarsh) October 7, 2017
Chef follows the story of a famed chef, played by Saif, who tries to reconnect with his son, whom he has ignored for years because of his career. Together, they take embark on a culinary adventure.
The film was met with lukewarm reviews. The Hindustan Times review said “the film offers moments of brilliance which, if weaved in a more organised manner, may have given us a light, affable film. But a lazy and rather uninterested narrative takes away the pleasure.”
This marks the sixth flop in a row for Saif Ali Khan, who has three new projects in the pipeline - two films, and one Netflix show.
Meanwhile, Varun Dhawan’s Judwaa 2 continued its impressive run, and crossed the coveted Rs 100 crore mark in one week of release.
