Actor Irrfan says that the Talwar family has finally got justice.

Actor Irrfan, who starred in the 2015 film Talvar, based on the Aarushi Talwar-Hemraj double murder case, has reacted to the acquittal of Rajesh and Nupur Talwar, accused of killing their 14-year-old daughter in 2008 . The doctor-couple had been pronounced guilty by a Ghaziabad CBI court in 2013. On Thursday, The Allahabad High Court acquitted Nupur and Rajesh , saying that neither the circumstances nor the evidence was enough to hold them guilty.

Irrfan, who played the role of investigating officer Ashwin Kumar in the film Talvar, said, “The court of law has in its eyes given justice to a case. The Talwar family have finally had the truth by their side and justice has been served in the right order.”

On Thursday, just after the verdict, the film’s director Meghna Gulzar and producer Vishal Bhardwaj, too, had hailed the judgment. Meghna said, “The immediate emotion that engulfed me when I first heard the Rajesh and Nupur Talwar had been acquitted by the Allahabad High Court was of immense relief. Since then newspapers and TV reporters have been calling me incessantly. I haven’t had time to analyse the judgment on my own, but for now the Talwars will walk free.” Bhardwaj said, “We were questioned by a lot of people when we made Talvar, even though we didn’t take any sides in presenting the story and maintained as neutral a viewpoint as was possible. I am overwhelmed and relieved to hear of the Talwars’ acquittal and this strengthens my faith in the Indian judicial system. However, it still pains me when I think about the precious years lost in prison and the emotional trauma that the parents had to go through, so much so that they couldn’t even mourn their own daughter’s demise.”

Bollywood celebs such Kabir Bedi, Shekhar Kapur and Pritish Nandy, too, rejoiced the verdict on Twitter.
