TV is the actual big screen: Riteish Deshmukh
Riteish Deshmukh believes the medium to be bigger than films as it reaches the maximum number of peopleUpdated: Jun 12, 2013 01:48 IST
Actor Riteish Deshmukh — who is one of the judges on the dance reality show, India’s Dancing Superstar — says, “It is wrong to say TV is a small screen. I think it’s the actual big screen as it reaches maximum number of people.”
The 34-year-old who himself loves to dance, likes the dance skills of actors Hrithik Roshan, Shahid Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor and Govinda. “After spending 10 years in the industry, every time I do a song, I do it to enjoy myself, because I’m not here to prove any point. I dance to have fun,” says Riteish, adding: “Every actor has his own way of dancing. I find Hrithik fantastic. I also like Shahid and Ranbir as a dancer, but more than that I like Govinda as a dancer, because he has his own style.”
Riteish, who came into showbiz in 2003 with the film, Tujhe Meri Kasam, turned producer with Balak Palak. The Marathi film highlighted the importance of sex education among adolescents. His banner is now working on another Marathi film, Lai Bhaari, and Riteish will also act in it. Producing a Hindi remake of Balak Palak is also in Riteish’s plans.
Ask him if this film too has a message, and the actor says: “It’s not necessarily that every film has a message. It works if it goes with the story. My aim as a producer is to make films that appeal to me. When I read them (scripts), they have to be entertaining. The choices that I make as a producer may not be the choices that I would make as an actor.”
