"When it comes to music, nothing is right or wrong," says singer Sunidhi Chauhan
Singer Sunidhi Chauhan talks about films, music and talent shows.brunch Updated: Jun 13, 2015 17:16 IST
If you weren’t a singer, you would have been...
A classic Hindi film you would have loved to sing for?
(1973). The film had such musical gems as the sultry
Tum jo mil gaye ho
, and the hauntingly beautiful
Betaab dil ki tamanna yehi hai
. Singing even one of them would have been so gratifying.
How have talent shows changed from the time you were a participant on one, to today, when you are a judge?
When I was a participant, it was just a competition and not a reality show like it is today. There was no voting system then. With this current show, we are going to be more like mentors to the participants.
A movie you would have loved to make your acting debut with in Bollywood.
I’ve never thought of that, really. But if I had to choose, it would be
(2014). It’s a road movie and Alia Bhatt’s character was brilliant.
Your favorite international singer.
There are way too many to name just one.
The best thing about being a singer in Bollywood is...
That when you do a show or concert, the way the crowd reacts is extremely fulfilling for a performer. That’s something I really enjoy.
Your all-time favourite music director.
Madan Mohan. The outstanding melodies he could create by blending Indian classical music with Western is just unparalleled.
Your favourite actors in Bollywood.
I really admire actors like Irrfan Khan and Randeep Hooda, and my favorite actress is Sridevi.
What do you prefer on reality shows: judging adult contestants or children?
I don’t like judging but yes, I like reality shows with contestants from similar age groups as mine, than one with just kids.
Aa Re Pritam Pyaare
Your favorite item number is...
– it is raunchy yet very catchy and you can’t help but sing along!
Three skincare products you can’t do without.
Mineralize Skinfinish Natural powder by Mac, Smashbox blush and an eyelash tint.
A dessert that describes you.
The flavour of the season: mangoes with cream. It could also be blueberry frozen yogurt.
Your dream holiday destination.
Right now, it would be Venice.
The best thing about losing weight is...
That you can wear anything that’s on a mannequin.
Your best memory about Delhi is...
Visiting Appu Ghar, the amusement park. My childhood memories are attached to it.
You destress by...
Gymming and also by washing the dishes. It sounds strange but it’s a stress buster for me somehow.
Your strategy in a crisis.
I just say ‘So be it’ and move on.
One song that currently defines your state of mind?
