Indo-EU Free Trade Agreement by end of the year: Sharma

The India-European Union (EU) Free Trade Agreement (FTA) is expected to be finalised by the end of this year, commerce minister Anand Sharma said today.

The India-European Union (EU) Free Trade Agreement (FTA) is expected to be finalised by the end of this year, commerce minister Anand Sharma said today.

“I am very optimistic that me and the EU trade commissioner will be able to report positively in the next summit,” he said.

Sharma was speaking at a panel discussion, in which British Premier David Cameron and Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, Montek Singh Ahluwalia, took part.

The Indo-EU FTA has been under negotiations for the last three years.

EU is India's largest trading partner. India-EU trade last fiscal stood at $82 billion.
