Inflation down at 5.06 per cent

Inflation declines to 5.06 per cent for the week ended May 19 as compared to 5.27 per cent in the previous week due to lower prices of food articles.

Inflation declined to 5.06 per cent for the week ended May 19 as compared to 5.27 per cent in the previous week due to lower prices of food articles including moong and wheat, and manufactured products.

The wholesale price-based index stood at 5.05 per cent in the corresponding week a year ago.

Manufactured food items including processed tea, khandsari, sugar, butter and jaggery became cheaper. Prices of other items like aluminium ingots, zinc and zinc ingots also declined. However, prices of cement went up 0.2 per cent during the week.

Also, the food articles index rose by 0.1 per cent owing to higher prices of arhar, maize, fruit and vegetables and barley.
