Engineering giant Larsen & Toubro has appointed Ravi Uppal as whole-time director of the company for a period of five years.

Uppal's appointment would be effective from November 1, 2010 and is succeeding R N Mukhija, L&T said in a statement to the stock exchanges.

Mukhija, whole-time director & president (Electrical & Electronics) will retire from the board on October 23, 2010, it said.

The company had yesterday posted a rise of 32 per cent in its net profit to Rs 765 crore for the second quarter ended September 30.

The order book of the company stood at Rs 20,464 crore in the July-September quarter 2010, while its overall order book was at Rs 1,15,393 crore till September 30, the filing had added.
