Pentagon approves Dell’s security platform on Android

The company began working with DISA in September 2010 to provide a secure Android platform for DOD. The government had been showing interest in providing mobile devices to civilian and military personnel.

Dell has revamped the tablet software to improve security, plus adaptations have been brought in to enable the device to meet Defense Information Systems Agency criteria for use with secure, but unclassified communications.

Besides being able to transmit secure unclassified messages, the device can have its data remotely wiped in the event of loss or theft.

Its features include the ability to remotely wipe data, lock the device after a number of invalid passwords, and remote control security levels.

The Streak 5’s certification suggests that more of the company’s Android devices may similarly be utilized by government agencies in the future. These capabilities and service on Streak 5 can be delivered to other platforms running on Android.
