At the Interbank Foreign Exchange market, the domestic unit was quoted 15 paise lower at 47.30 a dollar in early trade. The rupee had closed higher by 19 paise at 47.15/16 a dollar in the previous session.

Dealers said demand for the US dollar from importers and weakness in equity markets weighed on the rupee. A strong dollar overseas also put pressure on the domestic unit.

The Bombay Stock Exchange index, Sensex, fell by 60.38 points, or 0.33 per cent to 17,916.85 points in the early trade.
