Rupee loses 12 paise against dollar in early trade

The Indian rupee lost 12 paise to Rs 49.19 per US dollar in early trade on the Interbank Foreign Exchange today amid a lower opening in the domestic stock market and the dollar gaining ground against the euro overseas.

The rupee lost 12 paise to Rs 49.19 per US dollar in early trade on the Interbank Foreign Exchange today amid a lower opening in the domestic stock market and the dollar gaining ground against the euro overseas.

The rupee had gained 38 paise to close at Rs 49.07/08 against the US currency in yesterday's trade on dollar-selling by banks and exporters amid a sharp rise in the domestic equity market.

Meanwhile, the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex was down by 16.40 points, or 0.10 per cent, at 16,507.63 in opening trade today.
