The company entered Mumbai and Delhi markets with a store each and expects to open another 20 stores across the country over the next year.

“With the launch of TASHI, Tata International brings its longstanding expertise in leather to the domestic organised footwear retail segment which is poised for rapid growth,” said Noel Tata.

Tata had been instrumental in the success of Trent, the retail operations company of the Tata Group, which has grown from a single-store company to own over 90 stores.

India’s footwear retail market is estimated at around R16,000 crore and is growing at 15% annually.

Tata International said it expects to garner revenues of up to Rs 600 crore in the first five years of its footwear venture. In the first phase it plans to open six stores at Mumbai, Delhi and Chandigarh.
