Planning a long drive with elderly family members demands more than just a reliable engine. Boarding ease, rear-seat comfort, smooth ride quality, and useful convenience features all matter as much as fuel efficiency or performance. Here is a look at five cars, ranging from 10 lakh to over 30 lakh (both ex-showroom), that address these priorities in different ways. Check the list out:

1. Toyota Innova Crysta

Few vehicles have held onto their reputation for long-distance passenger comfort as firmly as the Toyota Innova Crysta. Priced between 18.85 lakh and 25.67 lakh (ex-showroom), it remains among the most dependable choices for families travelling with senior members.

The second row is particularly well-suited to elderly passengers, offering generous legroom, a foldable seatback table, and an easy-slide front passenger seat that makes entry and exit less of an effort. Its 2.4-litre diesel engine delivers 148 bhp, and the vehicle is available in both 7- and 8-seat configurations. The Innova Crysta's body-on-frame build also contributes to a stable, composed ride over uneven roads.

2. Mahindra XEV 9S

The Mahindra XEV 9S is a more modern and high-tech option, particularly for those open to electric mobility. Priced from 19.95 lakh to 30.20 lakh (both ex-showroom), it is the first dedicated seven-seat mass-market electric SUV in India. It is available with 59 kWh, 70 kWh, and 79 kWh battery packs, with a claimed ARAI range of up to 679 km on the largest pack.

The cabin features a triple 12.3-inch screen dashboard, a powered boss mode function for rear seats, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, and a large panoramic sunroof. Rear AC vents improve comfort for back-seat occupants, and a 150-litre frunk adds practical storage capacity. The near-silent cabin and smooth power delivery make it a particularly relaxing long-distance companion. That said, the sloping roofline may slightly limit headroom for taller passengers in the rear.

3. Honda City

The Honda City offers a more compact but thoughtfully designed option for chauffeur-driven urban and intercity travel. Starting at 11.95 lakh (ex-showroom), it is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 119 bhp. The rear seat is designed with a comfortable recline angle and adequate knee room, which reduces fatigue on longer journeys.

Rear AC vents ensure the cabin stays cool without relying on the front occupants to adjust the temperature. A large boot adds to the car's practicality, accommodating mobility aids or luggage without inconvenience.

4. Kia Carens Clavis

The Kia Carens Clavis, priced between 11.08 lakh and 18.69 lakh (both ex-showroom), bridges the gap between a conventional MPV and a premium people-mover. It can be configured in 6-seat or 7-seat layouts, with the 6-seat version offering captain chairs in the middle row that slide and recline.

Higher trims add ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, and Level 2 ADAS safety technology. Three engine choices, producing 113 bhp, 157.57 bhp, and 114 bhp, give buyers the flexibility to choose based on usage and budget.

5. Maruti Suzuki XL6

For families seeking a cost-effective but comfortable option, the Maruti Suzuki XL6 starts at 11.52 lakh (ex-showroom) and covers the basics well. Its 1.5-litre petrol engine produces approximately 103 bhp. The second-row captain seats come with armrests and offer slide and recline adjustability, making extended journeys more manageable for older passengers.
