Encroachments render Manimajra motor market patently unsafe

Those in the business complain of of ficial apathy and many, in hushed voices, have complained of a nexus between the encroachers, the police and the MC officials.
Even as space has been earmarked for mechanics and vendors, yet they have encroached upon the corridors of the markets.
Even the approach road to the market has been encroached upon with heavy vehicles parked on both sides, with vehicles finding it difficult to pass. Encroachment in parking lot The newly-constructed concrete parking lot remains occupied by haphazardly parked trucks, JCBs and cranes. Business owners claim that since there is a parking fee in Sector-26 mandi, the truck owners prefer to park in the motor market, where the parking is free.
Vehicles damaged in accidents remain dumped in the market with defunct spare parts, scrap and tyres left to rot, another form of encroachment.
DUMPING GROUND INSIDE MARKET
A section of the traders here claim that MC officials have created a dumping ground inside the market.
Trucks belonging to the MC come and unload filth and heaps of garbage here. A mobile toilet had been placed here, which is also rotting.
“The market has gone to the dogs over the past few days. We have met police of ficials, the MC and all UT councillors on the issue of encroachment, to no avail,” Krishan Kumar Palta, president, Manimajra motor market association said.
Meanwhile, BS Makol, for mer president, Manimajra motor market association, said: “Our many representations have been in vain. Forget about removing encroachments, we are even deprived of amenities. Somebody will have to answer for this treatment to us.”
“I know there is encroachment but I am helpless. Officials are indifferent to us. No one has paid heed to our repeated requests.” Des Raj Gupta, area councillor, said.
