Fire engulfs Project Deepak office building in Shimla

A major fire broke out at a British era building in Shimla that housed the headquarters of Project Deepak of Border Road Organisation (BRO) here on Saturday.

A major fire broke out at a British era building in Shimla that housed the headquarters of Project Deepak of Border Road Organisation (BRO) here on Saturday.

The fire broke at around 9:45 pm and soon engulfed the entire building.

The building, which is located in mid-forest area near Indian Institute of Advanced Studies (IIAS), also houses the office of the National Cadet Corps (NCC).

As soon as the news of fire broke out, fire tenders from the Mall road were rushed to the spot and local civil and police personnel also reached the spot.

Police official said that the local police station, Shimla West and the Mall road situated Control room received several call at a time reporting the incident as inferno were visible from various locations.

Though firemen were on the job, a government official told that they soon ran dry as there were no hydrants near the spot.

However, the fire departments have pressed in tenders from other stations to the spot.

Project Deepak is working for the maintenance of roads of strategic importance in the state.
