In a message on the martyrdom day of Guru Arjun Dev, the Governor said the Guru sacrificed his life for the protection of 'dharma' and righteousness.

Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal also called upon the people to follow the teachings of the Guru and said the real homage to the great Guru would be to follow his high ideals in the right earnest and strive hard to safeguard the interests of the oppressed.

In his message, deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal said the supreme sacrifice made by the Guru for preserving the values of humanism and secularism will continue to guide humanity in times to come.

Punjab local bodies minister Bhagat Chuni Lal and rural development and panchayats minister Surjit Singh Rakhra also appealed to the people to observe the martyrdom day with the resolve to follow the path shown by Guru Arjan Dev in leading a life of humanity.
