Man gets 5-year jail for forcing wife to set herself ablaze

Lal was arrested by the police in March 2013 when his wife Mamta had set herself ablaze. Lal had pleaded of leniency, saying that he has a four-year-old son and 80-year-old mother to look after.

The UT police on March 10, 2013, had registered a case against Kasturi Lal after his wife was admitted to hospital with burn injuries. The victim, in her dying statement, had said her husband, a habitual drinker, used to assault her every day.

The victim had alleged he also used to threaten her of burning alive by pouring kerosene on her. In her statement before the magistrate, the victim had claimed that it was due to his constant threats that she decided to set herself ablaze.
