Medical reports of Apna Ghar inmates submitted to SIT

As per the orders of the Punjab and Haryana high court, the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), Rohtak, on Tuesday submitted sealed medical reports of Apna Ghar inmates to the special investigation team (SIT) of the Haryana Police.

As per the orders of the Punjab and Haryana high court, the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), Rohtak, on Tuesday submitted sealed medical reports of Apna Ghar inmates to the special investigation team (SIT) of the Haryana Police. Two of the inmates, however, declined to undergo the medical examination, saying they were adult and also gave in writing about their decision to the PGIMS authorities.

Earlier, citing the seriousness of the allegations of torture, sexual abuse at Apna Ghar shelter home in Rohtak, the high court had ordered medical examination of all the inmates on June 15.

Since eight of the inmates had been medically examined at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, on May 29, the court ordered medical examination of the rest 93 Apna Ghar inmates at PGIMS, Rohtak.

PGIMS director CS Dhull told HT that medical examination of all inmates had been done on Saturday. On Monday, three new inmates were sent for medical examination, but two of them declined to undergo the procedure.

On June 16, the PGIMS administration had constituted a special committee of doctors and started the medical examination of Apna Ghar inmates.

The inmates were brought to PGIMS, Rohtak, from several shelter homes of Bhiwani, Rohtak, Yamunanagar, Gurgaon, and Karnal under tight police security.

The SIT will submit the medical reports to the Punjab and Haryana high court on Wednesday.
