The Bharatiya Janata Party election in-charge for Haryana Kailash Vijayvargia on Monday said no family member of the party’s MP or MLA would be given ticket for the October-15 assembly polls.
Talking to mediapersons, Vijayvargia, a cabinet minister in the Madhya Pradesh government, replied in negative when specifically asked if Aarti Rao, daughter of Gurgaon MP Rao Inderjit Singh, would get ticket. Sons and daughters of the BJP MPs and MLAs will not be considered for a party ticket, he said.
The BJP leader replied to several questions ranging from infighting within the party over ticket distribution, to the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) alliance with the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD). Excerpts:
After the first list of 43 candidates, infighting has come to fore in the BJP, particularly in Karnal and Mahendergarh. Even allegations about money being paid for tickets have been made.
There is no big revolt as such. We have spoken to all the dissenters and have put an end to their anger. Allegations of money being paid for tickets are baseless. In Haryana, the party cadre is a little weak. We do not face such allegations anywhere else.
Who is your chief ministerial candidate? You have always been naming the candidate before the elections.
We will announce the CM candidate after results. Our priority is first to form government and then we will decide on the CM.
What will be the role of external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj, who hails from Ambala, if BJP comes to power? Could she become CM?
Sushma will be our star campaigner. I cannot say anything on her being considered for the CM’s post.
In view of SAD fighting elections in alliance with INLD, will the BJP leaders from Punjab campaign in Haryana?
BJP leaders from Punjab will campaign in Haryana. We do not have an alliance with the SAD in Haryana. We have told them to maintain the decorum of our alliance. Any action in this regard could only be taken by the central leadership.
Birender Singh is seeking tickets for his supporters. What decision has been taken in this regard?
I have talked to Birender Singh and he is satisfied. His suggestions will be put before the central leadership.
Modi magic looks to be waning and has not been reflected in the recent bypoll results. How many seats are you expecting to win in Haryana?
The wave is stronger in our favour than it was in the Lok Sabha elections. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will campaign in Haryana and would cover almost all the Lok Sabha seats. In the last 100 days, our graph has risen nationwide. Modi has emerged as a world-class leader. Now, we can say that we have a powerful leader at the world-level. To install him as PM, Haryana has contributed a lot.
A lot of leaders are lobbying for tickets for their sons or daughters. Will tickets be given to kin of leaders?
The party is clear on this. We will not give ticket to son or daughter of any MP or MLA. The next list would come around September 20.
You have given ticket to a number of outsiders who recently joined the party. Are you sure that they will be able to get along with the party ideology?
For 90 seats, we have received 3,000 nominations. The entire Congress cabinet wants to join the BJP, but we have to make a choice. Those who have got the tickets are now BJP workers. If you want to live in India you have to say Vande Mataram. The BJP is a sea and rivers will merge into it.
Why your alliance with the Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC) failed?
HJC supremo Kuldeep Bishnoi took the decision to call off ties on his own. He lost the Lok Sabha elections. When he is not able to sustain in politics, how can he ask for a big share of seats. He told us that he would inform us soon but his reply came at a press conference.
