Additional sessions judge Jagjit Singh on Monday awarded life imprisonment to seven people for allegedly killing a student of Mullana Engineering College in 2010.
The court has also imposed fine of Rs 10,000 each on seven accused identified as Deepak Dhankar , Mahesh Malik, Rohit Malik, Deepak Yadav, Ashok , Aavesh and Sandeep, while Naveen, Dalip and Gurmeet have been acquitted due to insufficient evidence. The prosecution said an engineering student, Amit, was attacked by a group of people when he was going to lodge a police complaint after a clash between students.
It said the victim who had sustained serious injuries died at the Post Graduate Institute for Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh. On April 29, 2010, the Mullana police booked 10 persons under various sections, including Section 302 (murder), of the IPC.
