The UT vigilance wing had on Tuesday arrested junior engineer Jitender Prasad while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000.

The vigilance department had sought his custodial interrogation to investigate whether other officials of the department are involved or not. The vigilance department also wanted to investigate whether the bribe was meant for others or only for the accused.

Prasad was arrested red-handed on the complaint of Manimajra-based shopkeeper Gulshan Kumar, who had accused him of demanding an illegal gratification of Rs 5,000, for helping him out in a case of tampering with the electricity meter.

According to the complaint, Gulshan was to pay Rs 20,000 to the accused JE in instalments and Rs 5,000 recovered by the vigilance was one of the instalments. Gulshan had already paid the first instalment of Rs 5,000 on May 20.
