Tantrik kills seven-month pregnant woman in Batala to ‘transfer foetus’

A female tantrik with the help of five members of a family allegedly killed a seven-month pregnant woman in a purported attempt to transfer the foetus to the womb of a childless woman at Kala Nangal village near Fatehgarh Churian town in Gurdaspur district, the police said.

The victim was identified as Jasbir Kaur (32) of the same village. The tantrik, Desho alias Desha (45) and the in-laws of the issueless woman, Puran Singh and Joginder Kaur, were arrested while the rest of the accused are absconding.

In a press conference, Batala superintendent of police (SP detective) Kulwant Singh said on April 27 Jasbir Kaur’s husband Balwinder Singh lodged a missing complaint at the Fatehgarh Churrian police station.

During investigation, the police found that Jasbir was last seen accompanying Rajwinder Kaur (30), the issueless woman, going towards the house of Dehso on the outskirts of the village. When questioned, Desho confessed that Rajwinder approached her as she did not have child even after several years of marriage, the SP said.

When Desho promised her that she will transfer foetus of a pregnant woman to her womb, Rajwinder on April 27 evening took Jasbir along to Desho’s house on the pretext of some work, with Puran Singh, Joginder Kaur, and their daughters Neetu and Aman Kaur already present there, he added.

Desho with the help of the family strangulated Jasbir to death and cut her abdomen to bring out foetus which died. They buried the foetus in the compound of Rajwinder’s house and packed Jasbir’s body in a box. Police found Jasbir’s body in the box at Rajwinder’s house. T hey registered a case under Sections 302, 313, 316, 201 and 120-B of the against Desho and the five family members.
