₹1.50 crore ‘stolen’ from cash van in Prayagraj

A cash box containing over Rs 1.50 crore went missing from a cash van, which had gone to load cash in a State Bank ATM at Civil Lines side of Allahabad Railway Station

A cash box containing over Rs 1.50 crore went missing from a cash van, which had gone to load cash in a State Bank ATM at Civil Lines side of Allahabad Railway Station on Thursday night.

The agency employees who had gone to load the cash were being questioned, police officials said.

According to reports, the cash van arrived at the SBI ATM at the railway station at around 5 pm. The custodian, Akash, loaded the cash in the vault of the ATM machine while the gunman was outside the ATM booth and the driver was in the vehicle. Half an hour later, the cash van returned to the ATM booth and its employees informed the guard that one of the cash boxes was missing from the van.

SSP Satyarth Anirudh Pankaj and other senior police officials rushed to the spot and questioned the agency’s employees and scanned the CCTV footages.

The SSP said that the cash van contained cash around Rs 2.50 crore but the employees loaded the cash in different ATMs in the city. The exact amount of the missing cash will be ascertained only after receiving a complaint from the agency’s officials.

Primary investigation suggests that there were no attempts to break the locks of the cash van. The agency’s employees are being questioned and CCTV footage in the vicinity were being scanned to crack the theft, the SSP added.
