Greater Noida: A 32-year-old man was allegedly robbed on the Yamuna Expressway at Jewar late on Tuesday night by four men in a car who also injured him with sharp-edged weapons before fleeing towards Dankaur. The incident comes amid UP police’s claims of heightened security following the alleged gang rape, robbery and murder incident at Jewar.

Last week, a family of eight, including four women, were robbed on gunpoint and a man shot dead by six armed men at Jewar. The women were allegedly raped before the robbers escaped the scene of crime at the Jewar-Bulandshahr Road off the Yamuna Expressway. Police have roped in special task force and a special operation group, apart from the civil police, but have so far failed to track the gang involved.
According to the police, Tuesday’s robbery took place with victim Mohammed Majid who was on his bike from Loni in Ghaziabad to a relative’s house in Jewar.
“Four men in a Swift car cornered him near a restaurant. They robbed him of Rs32,000 and his mobile on gunpoint. When he tried to resist, they landed severe blows on him with a sharp-edged object, suspected to be screwdriver. Soon after the police was alerted, a combing operation was launched. We recovered the Swift car at Dankaur late at night, but the men had already fled, leaving the vehicle behind,” said Raj Pal Tomar, station house officer (SHO), Jewar.
“We are trying to trace the car owner with the help of the registration number. An FIR for robbery was also registered after the complaint forwarded by the victim,” he added.
Majid sustained several injuries on his hand when he tried to fend of the attack. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
