How did X users react?

Shaw’s tweet sparked a flurry of reactions, with some agreeing with her criticism and others offering different perspectives. One user responded, "Just visit Mysore, Indore, Surat, Rajkot to make the point! Ecuador is too far."

Shaw defended her stance, replying, "Yes, but the point is that even Ecuador, which is a developing country, is well maintained by the local municipality."

Another user pointed out, "Ecuador's GDP per capita sits closer to $7,000… I get your point though. Here’s hoping civic sense and responsibility towards local governance come in the next few decades."

Others reflected on India’s perception of itself, with one comment reading, "Point noted – and also the hurt pride! Subconsciously, we have started rating ourselves above ‘developing’ countries."

Some users linked the issue to Bengaluru’s civic priorities, with one remarking, "People are more concerned about speaking in Kannada than asking for basic rights. Unfortunately, we will never have basic infrastructure in Bangalore!"

A broader concern was also raised about governance, with a user stating, "Most Latin American developing countries have far better infrastructure than the Silicon Valley of India. Earlier, the British Empire looted us, now the political clan is looting India."
