Bengaluru suitcase murder case: Husband called landlord after allegedly killing wife

On Thursday evening, he reportedly called the landlord and disclosed the crime, prompting the house owner to alert the police.

Fresh details have emerged in the murder case of 32-year-old Gauri Anil Sambrekar alias Gauri Khedekar, whose body was found stuffed in a suitcase in her Bengaluru home.

According to a report by Deccan Herald, the woman's her husband, Rakesh Rajendra Khedekar, allegedly informed their landlord about the murder before fleeing to Maharashtra.

Investigators said Rakesh, a project manager at a private firm, left for Mumbai on Tuesday. On Thursday evening, he reportedly called the landlord and disclosed the crime, prompting the house owner to alert the police around 5.30 pm, the report added.

The couple had been married for two years and had moved into their rented third-floor duplex in Doddakammanahalli, near Hulimavu, in February 2025. While Rakesh worked remotely, Gauri, a mass media graduate, was looking for a job.

Forensic experts found a stab wound on Gauri’s body, which was discovered intact inside a suitcase in the washroom. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Sarah Fathima confirmed that forensic and Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) collected crucial evidence before the body was sent for autopsy.

Police are still investigating the motive behind the murder. The victim’s family has been informed, and further details are awaited.

Fridge horror in Bengaluru

In another case in September 2024, a dismembered body of a 29-year-old woman from Jharkhand was found stashed in a refrigerator in a flat in Bengaluru’s Vyalikaval area.

The body was first discovered by the landlord of the victim who had entered the flat to find out the source of the foul stench that had been pervading the neighbourhood for over two days.

Mukti Ranjan Ray fatally attacked Mahalakshmi, at her home. After committing the murder, Ray purchased a knife from a local shop, which he then used to dismember her body, according to the police.
