The victim, Karamjit Kaur, a resident of Sector 52, was waiting for her turn at the urology department, when her gold bangle was removed from her wrist.

Police said the unidentified accused used a cutter to execute the theft in which the sleeve of the victim’s suit was also cut.

A case under Section 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered at the Sector 11 police station.

“We will check the CCTV footage and try to find the culprit. Since PGIMER has limited manpower for security, we have already made proposals to the central government to sanction more posts for better vigil,” said Kumar Gaurav Dhawan, deputy director (administration), PGIMER.

Woman on morning walk loses diamond earrings to snatchers

A youth snatched a 32-year-old woman’s diamond earrings while she was out for a morning walk on the Sector 10/15 dividing road in Panchkula on Wednesday.

The victim, Sharanjeet Kaur Sandhu, told the police that the youth, who seemed to be below 25 years of age, came from behind, snatched her diamond earrings and fled from the spot. She claimed that the diamond earrings were worth 4.5 lakh.

On her complaint, a case under Section 379-A (snatching) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at the Sector 14 police station.

Pedestrian’s phone snatched in Chandigarh

A man attending a phone call while taking a walk was targeted by snatchers on the Sector 25/38 dividing road on Tuesday night.

Arjun Rai of Small Flats, Dhanas, complained that while he was walking on the road, two youths passed by him on foot. One of them turned around to snatch his phone and both ran away. A case under Section 379-A of the IPC was registered at the Sector 39 police station. Police are scanning footage of nearby CCTV cameras to identify the accused.
