Bathinda AIIMS to introduce robotic surgeries by year end

Experts said that no public sector hospital in Punjab, Haryana, or the adjoining districts of Rajasthan has a robotic surgery system.

The central government has approved a project to equip the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bathinda, for performing robot-assisted surgeries. Dr Ratan Gupta, executive director of AIIMS, said the institute has started the process to source an advanced robot from the US, estimated to cost ₹30 crore.

“The approval came last month. We expect to start robot-assisted surgeries by year-end,” he said. According to Gupta, this cutting-edge technology will enable surgeons from various department to perform complex surgeries with greater precision, minimal blood loss and quicker recovery times.
