Build robust intel to trace criminal elements: Haryana DGP to police officers

: Haryana director general of police (DGP) P K Agrawal on Sunday directed police officers to build a robust intelligence network for information about criminal elements involved in target killings, especially in villages and towns, and nab all those involved in drug peddling, reiterating the government’s resolve to make Haryana a crime-free and drug-free state.
Addressing the state-level crime review meeting at Haryana Police Academy Madhuban, the DGP asked all the police units, including Haryana State Narcotics Control Bureau, and Special Task Force to work in tandem with district police to completely eliminate drug trafficking, crime and criminal elements and maintain law and order.
He directed the commissioners of police and superintendents of police to immediately put in place a robust mechanism for generating intelligence about criminal elements involved in target killings.

“The police will also keep a close watch on the social media handles of these people and gangs,” said the DGP
In addition, he also directed them to prevent smuggling of weapons, arrest drug suppliers, other absconders and solve pending cases at the earliest.
The DGP said that the district SPs and CPs should be more proactive and that miscreants and criminal elements should be dealt with an iron hand. DGP Agrawal asked the police officers to adopt a result-oriented strategy to prevent drug abuse and deter criminal elements.
Taking stock of the steps being taken to counter the increasing incidents of cybercrime in the state, he said that cybercrime has become a threat not only to individuals but also to the government sector.
Apart from establishing new cyber police stations, the entire police department is being strengthened to meet the challenges posed by cybercrime, he said.
Additional director general of police (CID) Alok Mittal suggested that a separate list of proclaimed offenders (POs) involved in violent crime should be made for close monitoring of such criminal elements, while the officers present in the meeting gave suggestions to improve the conviction rate, investigation, nailing of gangsters, and drug peddlers.
