Three arrested with 125 boxes of illicit liquor
Three persons were arrested with 125 boxes of illicit liquor in Zirakpur on Sunday. The accused were identified as Rajkumar of Hisar, Ash Mohammad of Agra, and Shekhar Kumar of Panipat. Zirakpur station house officer, Onkar Singh Brar said that following a tip-off, a naka was set up and a canter coming from Chandigarh side was stopped for checking. On searching the vehicle, police recovered 125 boxes of whisky meant for sale in Chandigarh only. The trio was arrested under the Excise Act, and produced in court, which sent them to three-day police remand.
Man arrested for injuring cop in Kajheri, aide on run
A Kajheri resident was arrested for allegedly attacking a Punjab Police head constable while his aide continues to be on the run. The victim, Harjit Singh, owed money to the accused, Amit Kumar. On February 17, the duo was allegedly consuming liquor in Kajheri when the issue of money came up. Although the amount was around ₹1,000- ₹2,000, they soon came to blows and Kumar allegedly attacked Singh with a stick. Singh sustained a fracture in his head. A case under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code was registered at the Sector 36 police station. There was a delay in registering the case as the case summary from doctors’ side reached the police only on Saturday. Police are on a lookout for the accused’s accomplice, Pardhan from Kajheri.
